Description

AWF is currently seeking a talented individual who will be responsible for managing AWF’s project in the Mbeya region of Southern Tanzania integrating Sustainable Agricultural Development with Biodiversity Conservation. Reporting to AWF's Chief Operating Officer (COO), the Project Manager will manage all aspects and implement parts of AWF’s three-year program in Southern Tanzania, including overseeing the work portfolio, and ensuring the successful and timely completion of the project.

Key Responsibilities  

  • Manage all aspects and implement parts of AWF’s three-year program in Southern Tanzania
  • Implementing and overseeing the work portfolio, and ensuring the successful and timely completion of the project
  • Provide leadership, oversight and direct implementation on achieving the three main components of AWF’s project
  • Manage day to day operations, develop budgets for the project, monitor budget expenditures and fulfill all AWF financial requirements, complete administrative requirements, produce timely work reports and budget narratives for delivery to the donor and AWF
  • Establish AWF as a capable conservation organization in this region
  • Represent AWF at local forums to ensure effective collaboration with partners
  • Participate in and provide information to the development and design of funding proposals for submission to donors for support of the program and its expansion

 

Qualifications

  • Post graduate qualification (MSc or PhD) in natural sciences, social science, economics, agronomy or another field directly related to conservation
  • 8+ years of proven managerial, administrative and field experience in conservation
  • A task oriented, result focused leadership approach with a thorough understanding of project management disciplines
  • Experience and a proven success record in managing projects in  Tanzania
  • Experience with land use planning, conservation agriculture, negotiating with private sector operators and ability to manage staff and/or consultants
  • Proficiency in both English (spoken and written) and Kiswahili is required
  • Outstanding interpersonal skills;
  • Genuine respect for the skills and perspectives of communities, partner organizations and the private sector
  • Awareness and experience implementing landscape-level conservation approaches
  • Good report writing skills and working knowledge of computers and MS Office software package
  • Understanding of the interface between conservation and agriculture
  • Commitment to AWF and its mission
