As Project Manager for Big Garden Birdwatch, you will engage and coordinate multiple teams working through various channels to reach out to diverse audiences who can help us see how our birds are faring on their doorstep. This is one of the world’s biggest citizen science projects backed by a multi-channel marketing campaign, engaging new and existing members.

The ideal person will be an organised individual who enjoys working with people with good project management experience. They will also be motivated by the opportunity to unite diverse teams together to optimise how effectively we deliver Birdwatch across audiences and channels.

What's the role about?

The ability to bring teams together to deliver Big Garden Birdwatch effectively, maximise reach and providing a great experience is key to our success.

You’ll come to us armed with proven project management skills and be able to think on your feet. You must be brilliant with stakeholders, budgets, managing risks and tackling issues with gusto. You will be used to working with marketing, digital development and creative teams, delivering events and campaigns rather than a physical product.  You won't be afraid of leading change and bringing together diverse teams with different skills and experience, ideally in a larger, matrixed organisation. You enjoy working with a real sense of togetherness and ensure the project team is motivated to make Birdwatch brilliant for people and nature.

Essential skills, knowledge and experience:

  • Proven experience of managing and developing projects and change
  • Logical and methodical, analytical and a good eye for detail
  • Ability to translate complex points into clear and concise responses, managing them in a timely and efficient way
  • Able to work under pressure, adapt to changing circumstances and be solutions focussed
  • Experience of leading change and working in an agile and flexible way.
  • Experience of using collaboration to achieve positive outcomes.
  • Effective communication and interpersonal skills
  • Experience of working with diverse teams
  • Qualified to a standard broadly relevant to level 3 qualifications.
