Description

We are seeking an experienced policy professional to join our small team working to protect the Marine Park whilst providing for a range of activities including traditional use, tourism, fishing, recreation, research, shipping and defence.

The Policy and Planning Section is responsible for developing a strategic risk-based approach to guide future policy and planning efforts to support sustainable use. The position’s key focus is the development and implementation of management strategies and policies to support this risk-based approach. This will require the ability to have a strong understanding of the current uses of the Marine Park and their management. It also includes the ability to identify issues, explore possible solutions, consult with stakeholders and develop policy or planning solutions to address the issues.

  • You are experienced in evaluating policy options, ideally in an environmental management context.
  • You have excellent relationship and stakeholder management skills.
  • You enjoy exploring innovative policy and regulatory solutions while appreciating the reasons for existing policy and legislation.
  • You thrive under pressure, have an eye for detail and are able to manage competing priorities.
  • You enjoy being part of a cohesive, committed team.  

Duties

  1. Develop and implement policies and plans that support the protection of the Marine Park through a risk-based management approach which provides for sustainable use.
  2. Manage complex projects and develop initiatives to effectively manage Marine Park activities and improve the effectiveness and efficiency of the Authority’s regulatory systems.
  3. Prepare high quality written material and reports including the provision of expert, timely, practical, transparent and risk-based advice to management.
  4. Represent the Authority and work collaboratively to achieve results by consulting and negotiating with internal and external stakeholders on strategic issues, including with Queensland to ensure alignment with joint permitting and joint field management arrangements.
  5. Actively participate, as part of a committed team member, to the Policy and Planning section’s work, including contributing to delivering the Authority’s corporate objectives.

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

Eligibility requirements and qualifications

Applicants must:

  1. Be Australian citizens to be eligible for engagement.
  2. The successful applicant must be able to obtain and maintain a BASELINE security clearance; failure to do so will result in termination of employment.  

Qualifications

Highly Desirable

  • Experience or relevant tertiary training in developing policies and procedures; interpreting legislation; managing protected areas; and/or conducting environmental impact assessments.
