A highly motivated and enthusiastic Project Manager ACF will administer the Africa Cocoa Fund (ACF). The ACF is a fund that the Rainforest Alliance is dedicating to supporting certified cocoa producers in West and Central Africa. This new position is designed to ensure excellent stewardship of ACF and to ensure that the Rainforest Alliance provides first rate, proactive and grant making services. The appointed Project Manager will work in partnership with colleagues and stakeholders to identify projects for support, focusing on producer organisations that require technical assistance. He or she will liaise with organisations receiving grants as part of ACF’s monitoring and assessment process. He or she will also proactively identify opportunities for collaborative partnership between grant recipients and the ACF. The Project Manager ACF will play a pivotal role in supporting and promoting effective producer group development and continuous improvement of the Rainforest Alliance Cocoa Strategy in West Africa. Reporting to the Director for Strategic Projects in West Africa and working alongside a team of colleagues in different departments, the Project Manager ACF will ensure effective management of grants and high-level stewardship and accountability.

 

Responsibilities: 

 

A.  Project Management

  • Responsible for the sound execution of the ACF, taking full responsibility for project design, implementation, deliverable monitoring and budgetary execution; internal and external communication, preparation of reports and managing relationships with implementing partners, beneficiaries and stakeholders; complying with internal Rainforest Alliance procedures;
  • Engages relevant departments for coordination, consultation and collaboration of interventions.
  • Engages and cooperates on with main private and public sectors at sub-regional and national levels relating to the ACF and in close collaboration with the Rainforest Alliance local teams.

 

B.   Fund and Relationship Management

  • Work with colleagues to use Standards &Assurance database, Salesforce and other databases to accurately identify beneficiary groups and implementing partners, process grants and allocate funds.
  • Proactively identify opportunities for collaborative grant making focusing on maximising the return and impact of all grants awarded.
  • Coordinate with colleagues to assess applications within set timescales.
  • Manage a portfolio of interventions, ensuring their effectiveness and supporting their further development.
  • Assess, manage, monitor and evaluate grants in line with ACF’s development strategy and Rainforest Alliance requirements.
  • Prepare and manage regular meetings to review applications and provide updates on projects currently receiving support.
  • Produce ACF related overviews and annual reports as needed.

 

C.  Grant Compliance and other Responsibilities

  • Identify and ensure best practice procedures are adhered to.
  • Comply with the Rainforest Alliance’s Subgrant Management and Monitoring policy protocols, including the due diligence process.
  • Other duties as assigned.

 

Qualifications: 

  • MSc (+ 5 years of work experience) or BSc (+7 years of work experience) degree in a relevant field.
  • Minimum 5 years’ experience of project management, grant-making and relationship management
  • Minimum 3 years working experience in the cocoa sector, producer organisation and community development
  • Has commercial and/or NGO background with Knowledge of Certification Programmes (e.g. Rainforest Alliance and/or UTZ)
  • Ability to develop and maintain strong relationships of trust and confidence with producer groups and local stakeholders
  • Ability to work within a team structure as well as independently, under pressure and stay focused, be creative and take initiative.
  • Ability to co-develop and implement support to producer groups and work in cross-functional teams
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills and a high level of diplomacy and professionalism;
  • Strong organizational skills to manage multiple priorities in a time sensitive manner;
  • Ability to understand and analyse data in various formats, aggregate information and report on trends and findings, with ability to think strategically and creatively.
  • Strong background in monitoring, evaluation and learning
  • Proficient in Microsoft Excel, Word, PowerPoint and Outlook; familiar with modern enterprise video communications and the use of IT technologies and/or various farm management applications. Ability to use GPS
  • Both written and verbal fluency in English and French
  • Ability to travel and conduct field work in the local context (a minimum of 30% field-based work per year).
  • Strong personal ethics and integrity and commitment to uphold the rules and values of the Rainforest Alliance

 

Salary:

Commensurate with experience.
