Description

Eurogroup for Animals (www.eurogroupforanimals.org) is the Brussels based European umbrella advocacy organisation, federating 52 national and international members. Together we provide a voice for the billions of animals kept in laboratories, farms and homes or living in the wild. Our vision is to create a Europe where animals are valued as contributing to our well-being, prosperity and to the sustainability of our planet while foremost being considered as sentient beings.

With the growing International trade of goods, food and animals, Eurogroup for Animals considers the EU’s Trade Policy as a vehicle for promoting animal welfare worldwide, but at the same time recognises that trade can undermine animal welfare progress and threaten EU standards. Over the last five years, Eurogroup has successfully achieved the recognition and implementation of animal welfare in several trade agreements.  The Trade & Animal Welfare Project is funded by five of Eurogroup for Animals’ member organisations each of which is represented in the dedicated steering committee.

The purpose of Eurogroup for Animals’ Trade & Animal Welfare (T&AW) Project is to defend EU animal welfare standards in trade agreements and trade practices between the EU and third countries. Furthermore, the project aims to drive animal welfare improvements by adopting best practices either from EU to third countries or where higher from third countries to the EU.
