NREL’s Communication Office (CO) has an open position for a Project Leader III within its Deployment section to provide strategic communication for the NREL and DOE Federal Energy Management Programs (FEMP). The position is accountable for strategic communications planning and high-impact projects working with a variety of customers and CO resources. The candidate must demonstrate a successful track record in developing and directing campaigns and projects using a variety of media (including print, digital, and multimedia) in advancement of FEMP and NREL communication objectives. The Project Leader will be responsible for managing complex communications efforts, and meeting budget and quality expectations.
Working within the CO, provide leadership on an ongoing basis to identify client needs, guide clients in strategic planning, manage projects, and create and deliver products. The candidate also performs as a subteam leader that will include other communication representatives, project managers, and other CO resources to achieve FEMP objectives.

• Plans, develops, and performs a broad range of activities to achieve responsibilities and deliverables.
• Maintains and develops new business.
• Works with external and internal clients at senior management levels.
• Offers expertise on full suite of communications principles and products.
• Works with Section and Group managers to identify critical resources for projects and individual tasks.
• Acts as a resource for colleagues including mentoring and providing feedback.
• Exceptional leadership, strategic thinking, and project management.
• Ability to negotiate and implement effective solutions to clients’ communications challenges.
• Strong ability to collaborate with project team members including clients, technical leads, and other CO resources.
Relevant Bachelor's Degree and 5 or more years of experience or equivalent relevant education/experience.

Or, relevant Master's Degree and 3 or more years of experience or equivalent relevant education/experience.

Or, relevant PhD or equivalent relevant education/experience.
Advanced understanding and application of project management principles, concepts, practices and standards. Advanced knowledge of technical field and related disciplines. Contributes to the development of new principles and concepts.

Excellent interpersonal, conflict resolution, teaming and communication skills.
• Strong customer service skills with excellent ability to manage and maintain client relationships.

• Demonstrated ability to manage a large body of strategic and complex communications work.

• In-depth knowledge of professional communications principles and practices; and demonstrated excellent oral and written skills.

• Ability to produce communication products for technical, federal, business and academic audiences.

• Ability to interact with various levels of management in government and industry.
Professional experience in Communications, Marketing, Journalism or English, or equivalent relevant education/experience.

Familiarity with federal energy management policies and practices a plus.
