Project Leader: Congo Basin Forest

Greenpeace Africa is an environmental campaigning organization with offices in Southern, West and Central Africa. The organization is currently seeking for a project leader for the forest campaign. The project leader will have to lead the CONGO BASIN Forest Cluster Project and Team, both in Africa and at an international level, work in close collaboration with other NROs, GPI, and other campaigns teams. The project leader will have to ensure relevant development and effective implementation of the campaign strategy.

The successful candidate must be able to perform these duties but not limited to the following:

  • Lead the campaign strategy development and provide strategic and tactical expertise and input
  • Develop projects and write funding proposals where relevant.
  • Supports the selection of Team Members within the Cluster.
  • Manage and coordinate activities of all team members worldwide, and make recommendations to the whole forest team.
  • Manage the project budget deployment in order to ensure integrated activities that are aimed at achieving the objectives of the campaign project and limit overspending.
  • Nurture internal networks, solve problems, and ensure good communication within the project team, as well as with relevant individuals such as the project team member’s line-managers and NRO SMT members; in order to ensure that project plans are effectively implemented by the global organisation.
  • Coordinate the project implementation, using effective project management tools and covering all phases of Greenpeace projects (investigate, document, expose, act, lobby)
  • Manage resources and formulate detailed monthly, quarterly and annual budget follow-up and reporting.
  • NROs support: Provide strategic and tactical expertise and guidance to the NRO’s and GPI in order to enable implementation of an effective and globally integrated campaign.
  • Create and maintain external networks.
  • Advise  Fundraising colleagues at GP Africa or other NROs on the development of funding proposals for major donors and foundations, and subsequent campaign reporting and representation, liaising with major donors, Foundations and other supporters of Greenpeace work as required in order to ensure funding proposals are factually correct and in line with the agreed global campaign strategy.
  • Evaluate and report on progress of the project in monthly and quarterly reports, and continuously monitor the achievements and ever changing environment
  • against the project strategy and network goals.
  •  Responsible in setting up proper monitoring, learning and evaluation system.
  • Ensure that security management for the team members is properly managed, as well as the duty of care for our partners in the field, in close collaboration with the action/security Greenpeace Africa manager.

MINIMUM JOB REQUIREMENTS

  • Bachelor’s Degree in related field of social science, law, political science and development studies.
  • 3 years’ experience in campaigning.
  • Fluency in English and French both verbally and in writing.
  • Experience in a NGO sector will be an added advantage.
  • Depth knowledge of Africa and its dynamics.
  • At least 8 year Project management skills and experience including proven ability to effectively adjust plans to rapidly changing circumstances.
  • People management skills and experience.
