Borrego Solar Systems, Inc seeks a Project Engineer to join our team in San Diego, CA.

The primary responsibility of this position is to administer all project controls processes under the direction and supervision of the Project Manager.

Desired Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Engineering or Construction Management OR 10 years of field experience
  • 1-5 years of experience as a construction project engineer
  • Experience in reading and performing take-offs of blueprints
  • Experience with estimating and costing
  • MS Office
  • MS Project


Position Responsibilities will include but not be limited to:

  • Administers and tracks information and material
  • Administers subcontract and material/equipment requisitions for ordering equipment & materials and procuring subcontracts
  • Attends meetings as necessary
  • Ensure field operations, subcontractors and service vendors have all the information and materials they need to construct a quality project and to limit change orders
  • Establish and maintain good working relationships with all subcontractors and all vendors
  • Maintains a close working relationship with Project Managers, Supervising Discipline Engineers, and Department Managers to ensure engineering performance.
  • Assists with the establishment and implementation of project manpower needs and coordinates technical activities among disciplines
  • Collaboratively works with and assists with Identifying and ensuring compliance with regulatory, licensing and state requirements
  • Provides coordination in the design of a technically sound, safe and operable plant with a high degree of reliability.
  • Compiles lists from each discipline to develop master document list for project.
  • Assist Project Manager and Site Superintendent to develop subcontract scopes of work that are consistent with the contracting plan for the project.
  • Substantiates Prime and Subcontract Change Orders by verifying assumptions for work-hour estimates, material, equipment, and ensures all CCO’s meet Prime Contract Requirements. 
  • Prepares Change Orders for Project Manager and presentation to Owner/ Host Client.
  • Schedules and coordinates meetings between Internally and Externally including interdepartmental meetings, the client and other outside groups.
  • Assures proper documentation of meetings, agreements, conversations, etc. that affect the conduct of the project.
  • Coordinates the response to client’s engineering comments, approvals and requests with the functional activities of all disciplines.
  • Promptly reviews Design Change Notices (DCN), identifies change order candidates, segregates cost collection and assists the Project Manager in pertinent aspects of change order management.
  • Ensures Site Superintendent has all information to ensure site complies with company’s safety awareness program, office and/or field safety policies.
