Summary of Essential Job Functions

  • Develop detailed routings, work instructions and engineering prints and sketches related to CNC machining and CNC/Form grinding
  • Develop and improve processes for manufacturing gear related products
  • Assist manufacturing supervisors with tooling and applications
  • Troubleshoot machining operations on the shop floor, assisting supervisors with problem solving and process improvement
  • Assist with the qualification and setup of first article qualification
  • Provide technical support to global salesmen to help close open orders
  • Perform accurate material requisitions, fabrication forms, engineering details
  • Work with other departments and customers on projects from inception through completion to ensure all projects meet the customer satisfaction for scope, schedule and budget
  • Strengthen company-wide knowledge of product by providing ongoing positive communication and advanced knowledge base
  • Identify and/or follow best practices in the areas of estimating, materials management, fabrication and field execution to reduce material, shipping and installation costs
  • Must be a self-starter and have the ability to work with limited supervision within a team environment as well as the ability to manage multiple priorities
  • Must be able to communicate with all areas and levels of the company and interface with project teams
  • Select engineering techniques to solve problems and makes sound design recommendations
  • Ensure that proper intellectual property protection is in place including filing patents when applicable
  • Select materials for stresses and operational characteristics of product
  • Determine specification of purchase parts or material
  • Determine methods of manufacture of components
  • Check manufacturing bills of material for completeness and accuracy
  • Ensure that all parts are processed in the most cost effective manner that meets or exceeds contract specifications
  • Troubleshoot problems with production management, take corrective action and devise new approaches to problems encountered
  • Recognize and implement continuous improvements to manufacturing practices and techniques (processing, handling, fixturing, programming)
Position Requirements
  • Ability to develop processes in milling; drilling; tapping; turning; gear cutting; gear grinding; cylindrical grinding and have a working knowledge of heat treating processes
  • Ability to read blue prints for high precision gearing
  • Ability to interpret gear charts
 
Education / Experience
  • BSME or similar degree preferred, or 3 to 5 years as a manufacturing engineer in a machining environment
  • At least five (5) years of machine shop experience
  • Coordinate measuring machine and gear measuring machine preferred
  • Proficient at Microsoft Word, Excel, and Project
  • Proficient at AutoCad and Solidworks
