This position will be the primary resource for electrical engineering with the renewable projects engineering team.  The detailed electrical designs of wind and solar farms are performed by specialized engineering design firms; however, this position will have lead responsibility in directing the design firms.  The electrical systems of the wind farms will include interconnection to the transmission grid typically at 115-230-345 kV for wind farms; distribution interconnection for solar farms; multiple medium voltage collection circuits primarily at 34.5 kV; and turbine generators and inverters typically at less than 1 kV.


Responsibilities:

  • Primary interface for electrical issues for wind farm generating facilities (50-200 MW) with contractors/manufacturers/engineers
  • Electrical contact for engineer of record of multiple facilities (typically 3-4 projects/year)
  • Assist in conceptual design of electrical collection systems (34.5 kV), substations (34.5 kV-transmission voltage 115 kV-230 kV-345kV), and project owned transmission lines.
  • Lead major equipment (transformers, breakers, etc.) specification, evaluation and selection process
  • Assist in developing project specific construction specifications, bidding and contractor selection
  • Assist in standardization of electrical designs, specifications, etc.
  • Review of utility interconnection facility studies
  • Review of project design considerations for steady state, power factor, short circuit, transient analysis, grounding, protective device coordination, arc flash, SCADA interface design, and communication systems
  • Design review of projects in construction
  • Monitor construction progress and support resolution of field issues
  • Support operating facilities with electrical procedure development

Qualifications

  • BS or MS in electrical engineering
  • 0 to 5 years of experience with HV/MV substation design and construction
  • Working knowledge of NESC and ANSI/IEEE standards and codes
  • Strong conceptual understanding of three phase power and power systems
  • Computer proficiency in spreadsheet modeling using Microsoft Excel
  • Verbal and written communications skills
  • Some travel required
