The National Geosequestration Laboratory (NGL) is a $48 million infrastructure project which will create a national facility to aid the rapid deployment of Carbon Capture and Storage (CSS) technologies. The main focus at the NGL will be the conduct of research and development on subsurface locations for storage activities. Funding through the Federal Government’s Education Investment Fund has been secured to undertake the project.
Much of the NGL infrastructure will be located at the Australian Resources Research Centre (ARRC) in Perth, Western Australia, with nodes at The University of Western Australia (UWA) and Curtin University (Curtin). The facility will support Australia’s first CSS National Research Flagship, the Collie-South West Hub (Collie Hub).
The Project Director will have overall responsibility for the NGL, ensuring successful implementation of the research facility. The successful applicant will lead a wider management team, and will be responsible for engagement with key project stakeholders, including the Western Australian Energy Research Alliance (WA:ERA) members – CSIRO, Curtin and UWA, and the Collie Hub. The role would suit an individual with some previous exposure in a scientific environment, as one of the key responsibilities will be to oversee the procurement of advanced scientific equipment.
Specifically you will:
- lead the NGL project team, research partners and contractors to ensure successful delivery of the NGL;
- deliver the NGL on time, on budget, and as planned;
- deliver the project within the overall program governance structure;
- liaise with major stakeholders.

To be considered you will have:
- at least five years of recent experience in managing and delivering on large scale projects;
- experience in working with multi-disciplinary teams including leadership in coordinating diverse groups of professionals;
- ability to build and maintain productive working relationships;
- highly developed interpersonal abilities, including guiding, influencing and relationship development, plus exceptional communication and information presentation skills.
