Description

WWF invites applications for the position of Project Coordinator to support the work of the Fynbos & Succulent Karoo (FSK).  The FSK Programme has the following predominant focal areas of work:

  • Support & mobilising civil society participation in conservation (via The Table Mountain Fund, and the WWF-Nedbank Green Trust);
  • Growing our Protected Area Estate through land purchase and othe innovative means (driven by the Land Programme);
  • Testing new ideas and concepts around socio-ecological resilience in key landscapes within the Fynbos (the Resilient Landscapes Programme).

This position will support the FSK Programme, but particularly the work of the Land Programme, the Resilient Landscapes Programme, and aspects of the FSK civil society engagement work undertaken via the Nedbank Green Trust portfolio of projects.
The Land Progarmme is a national protected area expansion programme but with a focus within the Fynbos and Succulent Karoo biomes (Western and Northern Cape). The programme is structured to secure the ‘high value ecological assets of South Africa’, and ensures that ecosystems and their associated services underpin socio-ecological wellbeing and address the risks and opportunities associated with climate change.  The Programme has achieved significant successes in the last 5 years, and is expanding its impact and scope of work significantly.
The Resilient Landscapes Programme is focused on building socio-ecological resilience within the Garden Route, and is engaged with corporate partners in Forestry, Insurance, Dairy and other sectors that are exposed to significant environmental drivers of risk within their businesses. The Programme also participates in a range of novel and exciting research projects that are attempting to understand how to build resilience at biophysical, economic, social and governance levels within the context of a working landscape.
The civil society engagement is undertaken through two vehicles, namely The Green Trust and The Table Mountain Fund, both of which are independent trusts managed and operated by WWF South Africa. The FSK portfolio of Green Trust projects is growing and requires close attention and monitoring to ensure the maximum leverage and value for WWF, the Green Trust itself, and ultimately the project executants, is achieved.
