Background

The Eco-Schools programme provides a simple framework to enable schools to analyse their operations and become more sustainable. Pupil involvement is key to Eco-Schools and their involvement leads to genuine ownership of the programme and an increase in their sense of responsibility for the school environment and local area.

The Pod is an interactive on-line resource for teachers of Key Stages 2 and 3 children.  It sits at the heart of EDF Energy’s Programme for Greener Schools. It has been designed with the help of Eco-Schools, the Eden Project and the London 2012 Education Programme - Get Set. The Pod aims to engage with 2.5million children by 2012 and to make real and measurable improvement to the energy use and carbon output of schools across theUK. Eco-Schools have teamed up with The Pod to provide a package aimed at helping schools inEngland along their sustainable journey, and are hiring a graduate to deliver this programme across the country

The post is subject to a Criminal Records Bureau check.

Objective

DRIVING LICENCE REQUIRED.

Support the delivery of the Partnership activity plan, including promotion of the Pod to Eco-Schools, local authorities and other third sector partners. This will fundamentally support the delivery target of 2.5 million children engaged in the Pod by 2012.

Benefits of the Project Work to the Graduate

Working in a dynamic environment, the successful applicant will take on a wide range of challenging activities drawing on a range of skills and provide essential drive and coordination to the EDF Energy project acrossEngland. They will learn a great deal about sustainability initiatives in the schools sector, as well as strong project management and partnership working skills.

Employment potential and options post Project Work

Permanent work opportunities may arise within the team over the duration of the placement but timing, funding and performance will influence the likelihood of any further opportunities for the graduate within the team.
