Description

Project Co-ordinator required for an initial fixed period of 12 months, starting in August 2013, to co-ordinate a multidisciplinary, international conservation research project for the critically endangered Hainan Gibbon, funded by the Arcus Foundation.

The position will be based in China (likely at the Kunming Institute of Zoology) and will primarily involve: overseeing and coordinating an international action planning workshop for the Hainan gibbon in the second half of 2013 (including leading the preparation of a species action plan); networking between Chinese and international stakeholders to further develop a species conservation management strategy; initiating conservation project activities in the field to ensure project goals and milestones are met; and reporting to the Principal Investigator and to the funders. It is hoped that the position can be extended beyond the initial 12-month period, although this cannot be confirmed.

The successful applicant must be fluent and literate in both Mandarin and English, will have experience in wildlife conservation, and will have a degree in a relevant subject. Project management experience in either China or in South East Asia would be an advantage.

Training in project management, fundraising and other areas, as necessary, will be provided.

The post-holder must be prepared to travel extensively within China and overseas, including spending periods of time in London.
