Description

The Zoological Society of London (ZSL), a charity founded in 1826, is a world-renowned centre of excellence for conservation science and applied conservation, working in over 50 countries around the world.  

We are seeking an experienced Project Co-ordinator to support our new collaborative initiative focused on community-based management of marine resources in the northern part of Cabo Delgado, Mozambique. The project aims to develop the mechanisms and capacity for enhancing and sustaining community engagement in co-management of marine and coastal areas in northern Mozambique, and to enhance food security and wellbeing of local communities whose livelihoods depend on fisheries resources. This involves the establishment of pilot sites for community-based management, the development of a sustainable financing mechanism, and the development of sustainable enterprise opportunities. The project works with in country and international partners. 

The post holder will work with the Marine & Freshwater International team to support implementation of this initiative. Key duties include project administration and co-ordination of project partners and project activities for this initiative that is funded through a European Commission grant from the Thematic Programme for Environment and Sustainable Management of Natural Resources, including Energy (ENRTP) and co-financers. In addition, the post holder will provide a technical support role to project partners in community outreach and training. 

Candidates should be fluent in spoken and written Portuguese and English, exceptional and demonstrable administrative skills (including experience working in an EC-funded project), excellent interpersonal and written communication skills, 3-5 years experience working in Sub-Saharan Africa, and a post-graduate degree in conservation- or education-related subject.

The position will be based at ZSL’s main Conservation Programmes offices in London, but will be expected to spend at least 4 months per year in Mozambique. The post-holder will have a fixed term ZSL contract for 5 years, and the post is available immediately. Salary is dependent on experience but in the range of £24,485 – £29,237 p.a.
