Project Biologist - British Columbia

British Columbia Project Biologist (part-time): January  June 2014, Delta

Bird Studies Canada (BSC) is a national charitable organization dedicated
to advancing the understanding, appreciation, and conservation of wild birds
and their habitats through research, monitoring, Citizen Science, and education
(www.birdscanada.org). We are currently seeking a part-time (3 days/ week)
Project Biologist in British Columbia to help deliver a variety of BSCs
national and regional citizen science programs in British Columbia, in particular
the Coastal Waterbird and Beached Bird Surveys. The position is based at
our Delta office on Westham Island. Application deadline: December 6, 2013.

This is a 6 month term position to work 3 days/week from January to June
2014. The BC Project Biologist is responsible for the coordination and administration
of the BC Coastal Waterbird Survey and the BC Beached Bird Survey, and other
regional programs. Tasks include volunteer support and communication, data
entry, data Quality Assurance/Quality Control (QA/QC), maintaining updated
survey coverage spreadsheets, developing promotional material, giving presentations
to the public and naturalist groups, data analysis, writing technical reports,
compiling data for Important Bird Areas and other related activities.

The candidate should hold a B.Sc. or M.Sc. in wildlife ecology, biology,
conservation or a related field, and have relevant work experience. The
position requires: strong organizational skills, attention to detail, excellent
communication skills (written and oral), initiative, computer knowledge
(Word, PowerPoint, Excel, Access), analytical skills, and solid ornithological
knowledge of BCs waterbirds. Knowledge of marine or estuarine environments
would be an asset. Experience in public education and outreach, volunteer
coordination, graphic design, proposal writing and GIS would be highly beneficial.

The salary is $2,100/month (3 days/week) plus benefits. Qualified candidates
