BACKGROUND
This is a local recruitment. Only Thai nationals, individuals with residence status or the appropriate employment visa for Thailand are eligible to apply. The remuneration and benefits package for this position is established with reference to the local labour market and in line with the IUCN conditions of service for Thailand.

The Project Associate, Thailand Programme position based in Surat Thani province will act as a coordinator for Urban Resilience project implemented in Surat Thani province. It is funded by IKI Germany and aims to enhance urban climate resiliency, environmental sustainability and social aspects recognized by residents and other stakeholders achieved through better planning enhance resulting from improved skills and capacities of local administrative organization to identify and plan against climate change risks and impacts; applying Nature based Solutions (NbS); and strengthening policy-making and planning towards more climate resilient and sustainable urban development with national examples developed for Thailand allowing replication. The Project will demonstrate how Nature-based Solutions (NbS) can be applied in two very different settings to enhance urban resilience and planning to climate change. The project will improve the related local development approaches to address climate induced risks by integrating the elements of NbS into the plans in Chiang Rai and Surat Thani. In this Project, we introduce via NbS and other tools, such as climate risk models and urban nature indexes, which bring also economic, social and health benefits to the target sites. Project benefits potentially include less exposure to climate risks and the enjoyability of urban surroundings through water retention ponds, green parks, as well as providing decision-makers planning options for developing an image of sustainable and green cities.
JOB DESCRIPTION
MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES:
1 Closely coordinate and regularly consult with Head of Office, Programme Officer; Nature-based Solutions for Water to ensure that the monthly project work plan and corresponding activities carried out are in line with the outcome objectives, targets, and progress in the project targeted areas.

2 Assist the Programme Officer; Nature-based Solutions for Water to carry out the activities of Urban resilience project based in Surat Thani on the committed activity in the work plan;

- Organize the scheduled meetings and workshops with the project stakeholders based on the work plan and write the minutes of meetings.
- Provide the technical support to local communities and local authorities for activity implementation.
- Coordinate with local communities, local stakeholders on workshops and training courses organized for the targeted beneficiaries.
- Arrange payment requests and reimbursement for workshops, events, and training sessions organized by the project.
- Ensure the accuracy of the documents and payments for all project activities, and support IUCN Admin on administrative tasks and IUCN Finance for all financial matters.
- Liaise with the Monitoring, Evaluation, and Learning officer, Thailand Programme in collecting project quantitative and qualitative data.
- Liaise with the Programme Officer; Nature-based Solutions for Water, Thailand Programme to prepare progress reports as required.

3 Maintain regular contacts and build relationship with the targeted communities, local stakeholders, local authorities, and provincial government agencies under the project administration on urban resilience building, urban policy development and implementation.

4 Coordinate with project consortiums to ensure the comprehensive collaboration on urban resilience building, urban policy development and implementation.

5 Ensure that relationship of IUCN, community, local authorities, private sectors, and government agencies is well maintained and beneficial for IUCN Thailand Programme to scale up IUCN’s works in the targeted areas in the future.

6 Work closely with Head of Office, and Programme Officer; Nature-based Solutions for Water- Thailand Programme, private sectors, academic institutions, and government agencies to expand programme on urban resilience building and sustainable urban development, and other related issues to nature-based solution.

7 Carry out other relevant tasks assigned by, and mutually agreed with the line manager.
REQUIREMENTS
  • Bachelor’s Degree in natural resource management, climate change policy or relevant disciplines.

• At least three years of experiences in programme/project coordination and implementation.

• Experiences in delivering nature-based solution approaches at local level, proven ability to manage projects and demonstrating understanding on impact of climate change and resilience building.

• Knowledge of nature-based solution and urban planning will be advantageous.

• In depth understanding of Thai national policies on climate change adaptation, resilience building, water and wetland management.

• Proficiency in Thai and English (written or verbal).

• A strong team player who can work on own initiative and be a self-directed lateral thinker.

• Proficiency in the use of Internet-based communications platforms (Google Docs) and MS Office applications (MS Word, Excel, PowerPoint) and other web-based management systems.

• GIS proficiency will be advantageous.
