Description

The European Secretariat of ICLEI - Local Governments for Sustainability has a vacancy for a Project Assistant within ICLEI's Sustainable Procurement Team.

ICLEI's Sustainable Procurement Team develops and disseminates best practice in sustainable procurement across Europe and internationally. The team supports public authorities in developing and implementing sustainable procurement policies and strategies. The team also develops and implements projects on sustainable procurement to advance research, raise awareness and develop the latest tools to assist public authorities to use their purchasing power effectively by making a positive contribution to sustainable development.

This position will be of interest to anyone seeking experience of working in an international organisation and is interested in sustainable development with a focus on sustainable procurement.

Tasks and Responsibilities

- Assist the Campaign Manager and Director of Sustainable Procurement in developing and implementing ICLEI’s Sustainable Procurement Campaign Procura+ (www.procuraplus.org).

- Dealing with new applications and renewals of the Procura+ Campaign.

- Dealing with general enquiries relating to Procura+ and sustainable procurement.

- Assist in the development and implementation of projects.

- Assist with the organisation of events (e.g. meetings, workshops, training seminars and conferences).

- Database management and mailing list administration.

- Editing webpages and writing newsletters.

- Translation of texts and correspondence with external partners from various multi-cultural backgrounds.

- Providing general office support, filing, minute writing and other general administration work.

- Support the Director of the Sustainable Procurement team in administrative tasks.

- Any other duties that might be required consistent with the range and nature of responsibilities as a member of the Sustainable Procurement team.

Skills required:

- A degree in a relevant subject such as environmental sciences, economics, political sciences, or other appropriate qualification.

- At least one year’s experience of working in the field of sustainable development and/or in a public authority.

- Knowledge of sustainable development. Experience in working in the field of sustainable procurement is desirable but not essential.

- Ability and willingness to work independently and as part of a team.

- Ability to manage time and prioritise tasks.

- Good verbal and written communication skills.

- A very good command of English and German (reading, writing and speaking). Additional European language(s) an asset.

- Ability to use MS Office (Word, Excel and Access), Open Office, databases, e-mail and Internet. Experience in web editing through a website content management system and ability to use desktop publishing and/or graphics software (e.g. InDesign) will be an advantage.

- Willing to travel in Europe

Conditions:

Duration: 1 year contract with possibility of extension

Start: September / October 2009.

Gross annual salary range: 21,000 – 25,560 €.

Place of work: ICLEI European Secretariat, Freiburg, Germany.

Workings hours: 40 per week, six weeks of paid leave per annum.

Working language: English.
