Description

The project assistant will support the implementation of the REC’s projects in the Water Management and Natural Resources Unit (WNR) by carrying out all project-related administrative tasks.

Tasks include (but are not limited to):

  • contributing to the strategic and business development of the WNR;
  • supporting the preparation of proposals and tenders and participating actively in project development meetings;
  • meeting commitments and delivering services to constituents and target groups in an efficient, effective and ethical manner;
  • cooperating actively with other units and the REC’s country office network in project implementation and project administration;
  • assisting project team members by coordinating activities with departments performing support functions in order to relieve project staff of administrative tasks; and
  • managing any additional tasks as and when assigned by the head of unit.

 

Experience required

  • A minimum of three years’ work experience in an administrative function.
  • Direct work experience in project management, monitoring and evaluation.
  • Proven experience in technical assistance to projects dealing with water management and the environment and the EU environmental acquis is an asset.
  • Knowledge of both theoretical and practical aspects of project management.
  • Knowledge of project management techniques and tools.
  • Knowledge of, and an interest in, the environmental, social and economic policies of Central and Eastern Europe.
  • Ability to communicate effectively in both oral and written form in English. Fluency (written and spoken) in a language of a Central and Eastern European country is a strong asset.
  • Ability to work effectively in a team and to establish and maintain effective partnerships and working relationships in a multicultural, multi-ethnic environment, with sensitivity and respect for diversity.
  • Organisational skills, with a strong focus on quality and attention to detail.
  • Time management skills; ability to plan and prioritise own work under tight deadlines; and flexibility to tackle numerous tasks simultaneously
  • Computer and administrative skills, including knowledge of spreadsheet applications and database maintenance.
  • Ability to travel frequently.

 

Education required

  • A university degree in a relevant field is an asset.
  • Qualification in project management or equivalent.

 

Terms of employment

This full-time position is based at the REC’s head office in Szentendre, Hungary. The position is for a fixed period of 12 months, with the possibility of extension.
