Job description:
The Regional Office for South Asia of INBAR in New Delhi needs your expertise for the further development and implementation of sustainable management practices for forests with bamboo and/or rattan. INBAR was set up in 1997 as an intergovernmental organization and aims to promote the sustainable use of bamboo and rattan as tools to contribute to the improvement of the livelihoods of local growers and producers in combination with protection of the environment. To this end, studies will need to be carried out to assess the utilization and market potentials of bamboo and rattan production in India and in a few other South Asian countries. Furthermore strategic partnerships should be initiated and developed with relevant stakeholders in India and in the region.
Your tasks:
- Analysis of the value chains of bamboo and rattan in India and in the region
- Development of a 5-year plan to stimulate the production of bamboo and rattan, as well as the marketing of bamboo and rattan products
- Initiating and establishing national and regional partnerships
- Implementation of pilot projects
- Development and implementation of capacity building programmes for producers, sellers and other key actors of the value chain
- Provide support for fund raising and project development
Requirements:
- Masters or PhD in forestry, agriculture or other relevant field, preferably with knowledge of non timber forest products (NTFPs)
- Good knowledge of the ecology, management and/or use of bamboo and rattan
- Professional experience with analysis and research related to the value chain of NTFPs
- Experience with the development of capacity building programmes
- Project management and fund raising experience
- Proficient in English, preferably with a working knowledge of German
- Citizen of a member country of the European Union
