The mission of the WWF Tigers Alive Initiative (TAI) is to help double the wild tiger population to at least 6,000 by 2022. The WWF TAI Unit is a global team working in more than 15 countries (hosted by WWF Malaysia in the Petaling Jaya office close to Kuala Lumpur).
Description of position
As the Programme Officer, Tigers Alive Initiative (TAI) you will provide technical assistance and support to the TAI Leader. This will entail preparing and editing documents, replying to requests for information and managing ad-hoc activities/projects in partnership with the Leader. You will also provide support in the management and provision of data / information within developing databases, tracking tools and Geographical Information System (GIS) tools.
Responsibilities:
- Compile and edit documents for a variety of purposes.
- Answer technical queries from internal and external sources.
- Prepare reports.
- Manage and sort data / information.
- Provide support to the Leader on the management or input to projects and major activities under the TAI.
- Prepare ARC-GIS maps and analyses.
- Provide technical support to additional members of the TAI core team, when appropriate.
- Take on responsibilities when delegated by the TAI Leader.
- Prepare Media briefings.
- Undertake research for briefings, reports, media and other requests for response on technical matters.
Requirements:
- A Degree or Master’s Degree with related academic and professional background in the field of nature conservation.
- At least 1-2 years of working experience in nature conservation.
- Excellent written and oral English skills.
- Excellent skills in databases, Excel and ARC-GIS.
- Experience working abroad and with people from diverse cultural backgrounds.
- Good interpersonal skills, versatile and able to work in a team as well as independently.
- Responsive to requests from team members and an overall positive and energetic attitude.
