Technical/Professional Officer Grade
Climate Change & Biodiversity Programme
Salary depending on skills and experience
Permanent

We are looking for a technically competent, conscientious and motivated Programme Officer to join our Climate Change & Biodiversity Programme. The Programme aims to provide authoritative information to support decision-making at the intersection of climate change and biodiversity conservation policies. The Programme’s work covers the impacts of climate change and related policy on biodiversity and ecosystem services, and the role of biodiversity and ecosystem services in climate change mitigation and adaptation.

You will play a key role within the Programme and make substantial contributions to the implementation of projects as well as other initiatives that support effective decision making on biodiversity and climate change policy, with particular emphasis on reducing emissions from deforestation and forest degradation (REDD+), mitigation impacts (including biofuels), and ecosystem-based adaptation. Working within an international arena alongside leading REDD+ and adaptation experts, economists and GIS technicians, you will manage partner relationships to understand their needs and priorities to support, and in some cases lead, the development of new projects, as well as manage and provide direction to Associate Officer grade staff.

You will have experience of working at the science/policy interface in the field of climate change or biodiversity and working collaboratively with technical colleagues in developing countries, as well as a good understanding of the intersection between climate change and biodiversity conservation issues.

This role will involve extensive international networking and collaboration within an engaging team environment. The programme, with its experienced, ambitious and results-oriented staff, provides an excellent environment to develop and contribute to your own skills. We will provide you with the chance to strengthen your awareness and strategic understanding of international policy issues, and further develop your project and people management and technical skills. In addition to training and development opportunities, we offer a competitive salary and benefits package, including generous pension contributions.

If you are looking for a rewarding and challenging post, enjoy working in collaboration with others and have relevant expertise with good people and/or project management skills, we want to hear from you. Please complete a WCMC application form and send it with a CV and a short covering letter to recruitment@unep-wcmc.org by 20th April 2014.

Please note that this is not a UN post and we can only accept applications from those eligible to work in the UK.
