We are looking for a highly motivated and technically competent Programme Officer to work in the Species Programme to support the delivery of WCMC’s suite of projects supporting the effective implementation of species-related conventions and agreements, particularly CITES and CMS. The focus of this post will be on the delivery of scientific assessments of species of international conservation concern. As Programme Officer, you will deliver projects that focus on the provision of analyses and species assessments in support of sustainable species management to a high standard. Specifically, you will lead or make substantial contributions to projects that support effective implementation of CITES (including regionally in the context of the EU Wildlife Trade Regulations) and CMS. Using your excellent writing skills and your strong analytical and critical thinking skills, you will synthesise data and information to produce engaging and succinct reports. Working within a team, you will also be responsible for overseeing the delivery of scientific reports, analyses and species assessments, ensuring that outputs are consistently delivered on time, within budget, and to the high quality reflective of UNEP-WCMC’s standard. Where appropriate, you will also contribute to capacity building workshops and other expert meetings. You will hold a degree in biological, ecological, environmental or statistical sciences, have relevant professional experience and will have an awareness of CITES-related issues. A high level of accuracy and a meticulous approach to quality control is essential for this role. Furthermore, you will be organised, a good team-player, an excellent communicator and able to prioritise multiple competing deadlines.
