Vacancy - Programme Officer, Science (AD777)

We are looking for a highly motivated and technically experienced Programme Officer to work in our Science team to provide GIS, modelling and remote sensing support to a range of projects. GIS and spatial modelling are a cornerstone of our work at WCMC and this area of expertise is used to support all Programmes across the Centre.

This role is primarily to focus on GIS modelling and remote sensing products that will assist the delivery of projects across the work of UNEP-WCMC with particular focus on existing or future marine projects such as ‘blue carbon’ habitat cover and change maps and the delivery of land use change analyses in specific areas. Supporting our Head of Science, you will work closely with colleagues in the Marine Assessment and Decision Support Programme on contracted projects and will also work on land use planning scenarios. Using your technical skills you will deliver, on time and to a high standard GIS modelling and remote sensing products that will assist the delivery of projects across the work of UNEP-WCMC.

We will provide you with the challenge of working on complex tasks and in assisting project teams in writing up technical reports and scientific papers as required. You will have the opportunity to develop and apply novel tools and approaches to address specific questions and you will show a willingness to train others in the use of spatial analyses tools, including colleagues from developing countries. There may be prospects of attendance at relevant conferences, workshops both in the UK and internationally, which will allow you to extend your own knowledge of scientific and policy issues relevant to the work of the Programme.
