Programme Officer (Projects Coordinator) (Ref: AD668)

Salary circa £23,000

UNEP-WCMC is seeking an experienced Programme Officer to coordinate and manage the delivery of a GEF full sized project on Climate Change and Protected Areas in West Africa (CCPAWA), and provide management support to other Protected Areas projects.

The successful candidate will act as project coordinator for the CCPAWA project, establishing the project's internal working procedures and coordination mechanisms with project countries and technical partners, to ensure adequate compliance of project implementation with UNEP procedures. S/he will hold a Higher Degree in natural or social sciences including conservation biology, environmental science, geography or international relations. We are looking for a candidate who has demonstrated understanding of the issues and concepts related to protected areas, climate change, biodiversity and development. S/he will be a highly motivated self starter, with a good balance of enthusiasm and realism for finding solutions to global biodiversity challenges.

UNEP-WCMC's mission is to evaluate and highlight the many values of biodiversity and put authoritative biodiversity knowledge at the centre of decision-making.
