Programme Officer for the Swedish International Agricultural Network Initiative (SIANI)

The Swedish International Agricultural Network Initiative (SIANI), financed by Sida and hosted at the Stockholm Environment Institute, is Sweden’s response to the 21st century’s food and farming crisis. SIANI is an interdisciplinary and multi-stakeholder platform. It brings together actors from government, civil society, industry and academia to address the urgent need for global agricultural development strategies that ensure food security, reduce poverty and promote environmental sustainability. SIANI organizes a range of seminars and learning events on various topics in the field of agriculture and development, and also supports seminars organized by Swedish stakeholders. SIANI cluster groups bring together stakeholders with different backgrounds to address emerging issues in agriculture and development.

The SIANI Programme Officer will be part of the SIANI Secretariat and support the management of the network’s activities in Sweden.

Main tasks
The Programme Officer will:
Develop project concepts, proposals and plans
Manage the SIANI website
Plan and coordinate training events, seminars and workshops

Other tasks
The Programme Officer will contribute to the SIANI network and partner activities, and be expected to:
Communicate SIANI’s work via email, phone, website, and potentially social media
Plan and organize meetings with network members and cluster groups
Facilitate cluster groups and other ad hoc partner activities
Build an agricultural development and policy network

The Programme Officer will represent SIANI, and be expected to:
Participate in SIANI’s advisory group meetings, cluster groups and other contributing groups in the network
Review and comment on reports, proposals, papers, etc.
Attend and present at meetings, conferences and other forums
Meet with researchers, civil society representatives, policy-makers, industry leaders, sector groups, etc.

To support the Programme Manager, the Programme Officer will on occasion be expected to:
Evaluate and follow-up on training activities, seminars and workshops
Manage administrative aspects of project delivery
Supervise interns and sub-contractors

Working relationships
The Programme Officer will report to the SIANI Programme Manager, and be part of the SIANI Secretariat team, which works together on all the activities of the SIANI network. The Programme Officer will be responsive to the network’s partners.

Profile
For this position, SEI is looking for a self-organizing, energetic person able to handle technical content as well as complex relationships in the SIANI network. Ideally, the candidate will be able to work effectively with Swedish actors from government, civil society, industry and academia, and have a deep understanding of environmental, social, political and economic perspectives on sustainable agricultural development.

Qualifications and experience
At least five years’ work experience in the area of agriculture and development, including field experience in a developing country
University degree in a relevant field, such as agriculture, development studies, social science, and/or environmental management
Good knowledge of the agricultural sector, oriented towards international development
Strong skills in managing web-based information and social media
Strong technical and analytical abilities
Experience of networking in the field of development
Strong interpersonal, intercultural and communication skills
Excellent organizational and management skills
Ability to effectively handle multiple tasks without compromising quality
Good team spirit and positive working relationships
Familiar with the Swedish development cooperation system, policy procedures in Sweden and operational activities for development
Proficiency and fluency in English and Swedish, including advanced writing and oral skills.
