Vacancy - Programme Officer (Environmental Economist) (AD836)

Ecosystems Assessment | Permanent, full-time, Specialist Officer

Salary depending on skills and experience

Closing date: 2014-07-13

WCMC is currently looking to fill a new role of Programme Officer (Environmental Economist) to work with us on a permanent basis, contributing environmental economics expertise to our work on biodiversity and agriculture issues.

The programme produces high quality biodiversity indicators and provides support to international policy processes. Recent and current work includes the Biodiversity Indicators Partnership, UK National Ecosystem Assessment and the Performance Review and Assessment of Implementation System for the UN Convention to Combat Desertification.

Working closely with colleagues in the Ecosystem Assessment Programme, as well as with other Economists in the centre, you will provide expertise in environmental economics to a range of issues, including assessing the ecosystem costs and benefits of different policy options, undertaking economic analysis of the relationship between biodiversity and agriculture and contributing to work on natural capital assessments and ecosystem accounting. The post holder will contribute both to improving understanding of policy options and the trade- offs between them and to devising tools to guide decision makers.

The successful candidate will hold a Masters degree or equivalent in the relevant field, and have significant experience of how to mainstream ecosystem services in policy-making. They will also have a sophisticated understanding of the essential characteristics of successful partnership-building and will be able to demonstrate the ability to work collaboratively.

In return, we can provide you with the chance to grow your technical skills within an ambitious, results orientated environment. In addition to training and development opportunities, we offer a competitive salary and benefits package, including generous pension contributions.

If you are looking for a rewarding and challenging post where you can impress us with your technical expertise and teamwork, we want to hear from you. Please complete a WCMC application form and send it with a CV and a short covering letter to recruitment@unep-wcmc.org by 13th July 2014.

Please note that this is not a UN post and we can only accept applications from those eligible to work in the UK.
