Founded in 1903, Fauna & Flora International (FFI) is the world’s longest established international conservation organisation. Our vision is to create a sustainable future for the planet where biodiversity is conserved by the people living closest to it. We aim to do this through the conservation of threatened species and ecosystems worldwide, choosing solutions that are sustainable, based on sound science and take account of human needs. We have become a trusted entity in the world of conservation. Today FFI is active in over 40 countries.

The FFI Americas & Caribbean Programme works to deliver FFI’s mission in the wider Caribbean and Latin America.  With a regional base in Cambridge, the programme has staff in Nicaragua, Antigua and Ecuador, and additional projects with partners in Belize, Honduras, Costa Rica and a growing number of Caribbean islands, including St Lucia, Anguilla and St Vincent and the Grenadines.

The Americas & Caribbean Programme seeks to bring FFI expertise, innovative approaches and resources to bear on landscape, site and species conservation and the associated challenges of sustainable development, especially for those local people and stakeholders who depend on the natural ecosystem for their livelihoods. We work both at site level and on national policies. In every location we cooperate with partner NGOs, local and national government, communities, industries and other stakeholders and seek to respond to their conservation priorities and build local capacity. Target habitats and species include coastal and marine habitats in the eastern tropical Pacific and Caribbean, dry forest, Chocó rainforest and endangered island endemics of the Caribbean. We also work on charismatic flagship species, notably sea turtles, for which we have an extensive programme, which is centred on Nicaragua but cooperates regionally.

FFI is seeking qualified candidates for the position of Programme Officer, to manage selected projects, collaborate with the many partner organisations involved, provide administrative support for the whole regional programme, and contribute to fund-raising. The portfolio of projects to be managed includes coastal and marine conservation projects in Central America, notably Honduras and Costa Rica, while administrative support will be needed to projects in both the Americas and the Caribbean.

You will have a postgraduate degree with relevant technical expertise, preferably including marine conservation and associated livelihoods, and proven ability in project management and administration, including financial aspects. You will have field experience in Latin America or the Caribbean and have the personal qualities and skills necessary to collaborate effectively with governments, non-governmental partners and a variety of stakeholders. You will be highly organised and self-reliant yet a good team player, responsive to the ideas of colleagues and partners.  You will be able to communicate fluently in both English and Spanish. Excellent writing skills are essential, including experience of writing donor reports. The Programme Officer will travel extensively in the region, mainly within Central America.
