Description

We are looking for a technically competent, conscientious and motivated Programme Officer to work in our Marine Programme to support and lead scientific and technical projects in UNEP-WCMC’s growing work in marine assessment, data provision and decision support. An experienced self starter you will be able to demonstrate a proven track record in proposal development, project management, research, data analysis, strong technical writing skills and engagement with the international conservation policy context.

The role will support or lead on the delivery of a broad range of projects related to the theme of marine environmental monitoring and assessment, spanning issues including habitat mapping, marine protected areas, marine spatial planning, ecosystem service assessment (including ‘blue carbon’), and regional (e.g. EU, UNEP Regional Seas) to global level assessment and reporting.

Projects worked on typically involve integrating across ecology, socio-economics, and policy, so experience in multidisciplinary and applied projects will be particularly useful. You will have a solid conceptual base in marine science, be a quick learner, able to prioritise well across tasks and have a keen interest in engaging in a number of projects spanning a range of issues as well as having proven and relevant work experience in the analysis and synthesis of biodiversity data and information to inform conservation management responses and you should embrace opportunities to apply innovative technical solutions to solving data challenges. It is important that the post holder cultivates and maintains good working relationships with partners and agencies within the UN, governmental, non-governmental, and scientific organisations and private sectors across the globe.

This role will involve extensive international networking and collaboration within an engaging team environment.
