Programme Officer – Protected Areas Information Officer
Protected Areas Programme
Salary £25,000 - £31,000
Permanent

We are looking for a highly motivated and technically experienced Programme/Information Officer to work in the Protected Areas Programme and support the development, management and integration of WCMC’s suite of information systems, including inter alia the World Database of Protected Areas, the Protected Planet initiative, the registry of Indigenous and Community Conserved Areas, management effectiveness and social assessment datasets.

This role will provide you with an opportunity to demonstrate your experience of working with GIS software and relational databases. Supporting the Senior Programme Officer, you will ensure that the Protected Areas information systems are maintained to the highest level of quality, are fit for purpose and are readily accessible to the user community. Using your understanding of the complex issues surrounding data sharing you will manage relationships with a large variety of data users, whilst implementing and delivering a comprehensive update and prioritisation schedule.

We will provide you with the challenge of working on high profile conservation projects, where your work really makes a difference to the field of conservation in an area aligned to our strategic aims and broader global initiatives. Using your communication, presentation and interpersonal skills you will provide advice and support to internal and external users and have the opportunity to represent UNEP-WCMC at relevant conferences and workshops to promote the Centre’s Protected Areas information resource. In addition to training and development opportunities, we offer a competitive salary and benefits package, including generous pension contributions.

If you are looking for a rewarding and challenging post where you can impress us with your technical expertise and teamwork, we want to hear from you. Please complete a WCMC application form and send it with a CV and a short covering letter to recruitment@unep-wcmc.org by 17th May 2013.

Please note that this is not a UN post and we can only accept applications from those eligible to work in the UK.
