Description

The UNEP World Conservation Monitoring Centre (UNEP-WCMC), based in Cambridge UK, is the specialist biodiversity information and assessment centre of the United Nations Environment Programme (UNEP), run cooperatively with WCMC 2000, a UK charity. UNEP-WCMCs mission is to evaluate and highlight the many values of biodiversity and put authoritative biodiversity knowledge at the centre of decision-making. Since its establishment in the 1970s, it has been at the forefront of the compilation, management, analysis and dissemination of global biodiversity information, and has an outstanding record of achievement.

A position now exists for a Programme Officer to provide support to our programme of work relating to the implementation of CITES, the European Community wildlife trade Regulations (the Regulations) and the CMS.

The successful candidate will play a key role in ensuring the delivery of a wide range of innovative, value-added information products and services linking biodiversity conservation data with policy to support effective implementation of species-orientated multilateral agreements. This enthusiastic, self-starter with at least three years experience of working on CITES related issues will be able to demonstrate proven in-depth experience of CITES and the Regulations as well as experience in project management, research, data analyses, and international conservation exposure.

The salary is negotiable within the Centres existing bands. Applicants who meet the requirements are invited to send by 2nd June 2008 their CV including full publications list, a short letter of motivation that specifically addresses the contribution they can make to the role and to the work of the Centre more generally, and the names and contact details of two referees to: recruitment@unep-wcmc.org.

Applications are invited from all nationalities. Prospective candidates should note that this is not a UN post. For more information on UNEP-WCMC see vacancies at: www.unep-wcmc.org.
