The United Nations Environment Programme World Conservation Monitoring Centre (UNEP-WCMC) aims to put the best available biodiversity information in front of national, regional and global decision makers. The Centre is the result of a collaborative agreement between UNEP and WCMC, a UK Charity. 
 

The Role

An exciting opportunity has arisen to join our Marine Assessment and Decision Support Programme at a pivotal moment in their development. As Programme Officer, you will support and lead technical projects in marine assessment, data provision and decision support.

This is a fixed-term role initially, however there is a possibility of this becoming a permanent role in the future.
 

Key Responsibilities

The post holder will be responsible for the delivery of a broad range of projects related to marine environmental monitoring and assessment, spanning issues including habitat mapping, marine protected areas, marine spatial planning, ecosystem service assessment and assessment and reporting at both regional and global levels.

The Candidate

The successful candidate will hold a degree in marine science or a related field, with demonstrated applied knowledge of spatial planning techniques. They will be a motivated and enthusiastic individual with a solid conceptual base in marine science, a proven track record in project development, project management, research, data analysis and engagement with the international conservation policy context. Experience working in at least one other UN language (besides English) is highly desirable. Applicants will also have an understanding of the essential characteristics of successful partnership-building and will be able to demonstrate the ability to work collaboratively.
