Description

Programme Officer - Environment education unit

Centre for Science and Environment (CSE) an established research and advocacy institute needs is looking for a Programme Officer for its Environment Education Unit (EEU):

About the Unit:

The EEU is one of CSE’s younger units. Not in age but in spirit, approach and tone. It targets a specific section of the population—the youth. Its mandate is to introduce the concept of ‘environment’ to the beginners in the field, focussing, particularly on the school-going generation. It seeks to do that not by laying out a set of theories and definitions, but by helping its constituency to get actively involved with environment. This is done through ‘Gobar Times’, a magazine for students, which comes out with CSE’s science and environment fortnightly magazine ‘Down to Earth’. The other key tool of EEU is the Green Schools Programme (GSP), launched in 2006, with the objective of using schools as change agents to make basic and long term changes in the mindset and lifestyle of the people.

The Green Schools Programme was launched in 2006 with the objective of using schools as a tool to make basic and long term changes in the mindset and lifestyle of the people. Today, more than 15,000 schools, across India, are a part of it. Four state governments, including Delhi, are offering state-level GTGSP awards, with the governments in Delhi, Himachal Pradesh and Sikkim announcing Chief Minister’s Rolling Trophy for the state-level top performers. The Green Schools Manual has been translated into Kannada, Gujarati, Punjabi, Urdu and Hindi.

Please visit our website for more details on EEU.
