We are looking for a motivated, creative GIS technical specialist with experience of working with the private sector on environmental issues.  The post is based within the Business and Biodiversity programme which aims to bring high quality biodiversity data and information into the heart of private sector decision-making, and in doing so, aims to enable more, and more effective, conservation of biodiversity worldwide.  The programme is set to expand in scope and reach, building on its unique, successful partnership with the extractive industry – Proteus - and a track record of delivering high quality research outputs to expand to develop its work with the private sector.

This role will provide you with the opportunity to play an important role in the delivery and development of projects within the Proteus partnership, a decade old collaboration with 15 of the world’s largest mining and oil and gas companies.  Entering its third phase of operation, Proteus aims to provide high quality spatial data and information to companies in order to improve their decision making.  The role requires close liaison with the Proteus partners and with other programmes within UNEP-WCMC, many of which are working at the cutting edge of biodiversity conservation and informatics.

You will be creative, a lateral thinker and have strong technical GIS skills.  You will have a passion for, and track record of, engaging constructively with the private sector to deliver positive social and environmental outcomes, based on sound science.  A strong team player who thrives in an environment where they are given responsibility, you will have strong relationship building and management skills and a track record of delivering high quality outputs on time and in budget.

We will provide you with the chance to work with like-minded individuals, in an environment that supports your technical and personal skills development. The Centre staff are experienced, ambitious and results-orientated, providing an excellent environment to develop and contribute your own skills. In addition to training and development opportunities, we offer a competitive salary and benefits package, including generous pension contributions.

If you are looking for a rewarding and challenging post within a group of like minded people working at the science-policy interface, and have the necessary skills and experience, we want to hear from you. Please complete our application form and send it together with your CV and a short covering letter through the link on our website at www.unep-wcmc.org by 31st August 2015.

Please note that this is not a UN post and we can only accept applications from those eligible to work in the UK.
