The Central Region covers approximately 90,000 hectares and is made up of low-lying land holdings in the East to high mountainous forestry and open land in the North & West, including lands within the Loch Lomond & the Trossachs National Park.

Job description

The Work Programmer plays a key role in compiling and planning work programmes to meet our economic, social and environmental objectives.

The Programme Manager prepares the scheduling of traditional forestry work, such as road building, tree felling and tree planting. There is an increasing need for a programme of peatland restoration, native woodland restoration and the installation of recreation infrastructure. It will be the Programme Manager’s duty to schedule these programmes. Additionally, there is the challenge of actively managing programmes responding to the spread of Phytophthora ramorum in larch.

As well as scheduling works at the right time, the programmer needs to facilitate team input to work plans to ensure jobs are carried out safely, without damage to the environment.

Good organisational, communication and strategic thinking skills are most important in this role.

Forestry and/or land management experience will be helpful but not essential.

Responsibilities

  • Develop work programmes for felling, restocking, new planting and roading in conjunction with Delivery teams.
  • Facilitate Work Planning system in line with Financial Plan timetable.
  • Develop new programmes for habitat restoration, habitat improvement and recreation developments.
  • Manage a range of surveys, through close liaison with Survey technician, to approved timetable.
  • Carry out long term forecasting and plan programmes to fit long term trends.
