FFI protects threatened species and ecosystems worldwide, choosing solutions that are sustainable, based on sound science and take account of human needs. Operating in more than 40 countries worldwide – mainly in the developing world – FFI saves species from extinction and habitats from destruction, while improving the livelihoods of local people. Founded in 1903, FFI is the world’s longest established international conservation body and a registered charity.

The FFI Americas Programme works to deliver the organization’s mission in Latin America and the Caribbean. With a base in Cambridge, we operate programmes in Nicaragua, Ecuador and Brazil, and work with partner organizations in several countries throughout the region. FFI’s Americas Programme is supported by a diversity of funding sources, ranging from private individuals, trusts and foundations, to corporate partners.

FFI has worked in Nicaragua since 1998, supporting biodiversity conservation and institutional strengthening of local and national partners. FFI Nicaragua has been working alongside the Nicaraguan Ministry of Environment and Natural Resources (MARENA), local NGOs and communities to support the establishment of effective management regimes for protected areas, and the immediate areas surrounding them, on the Pacific coast of Nicaragua and on the Island of Ometepe in Lake Nicaragua. We work to conserve priority threatened habitats, such as Pacific dry forest, and critically endangered species, notably marine turtles. The FFI Nicaragua programme has an annual budget in the region of USD 400,000.

FFI is seeking a dynamic, results-orientated individual, with proven leadership, management and diplomatic skills, to act as the driving force behind the development and delivery of FFI’s strategy and programme in Nicaragua. The successful applicant will have strong practical experience in Latin America and have demonstrated commitment and contribution to the conservation and/or development fields. S/he will preferably have an advanced degree or equivalent level qualification in a relevant discipline and will have substantial experience in a related role.
