Wildlife Trust of India (WTI) seeks expressions of interest from accomplished individuals with at least 5 years of managerial experience in wildlife conservation, project coordination and/or communications, and an established knowledge of elephant conservation, to manage the activities of its IUCN Asian Elephant Specialist Group (AsESG) secretariat in Noida. Who we’re looking for The AsESG is a global network of scientists, managers, conservationists and policy makers concerned with the study, monitoring, management, and conservation of Asian Elephants. As the Programme Manager, you will assist the Chair of AsESG as the main person responsible for the administrative work and technical coordination of activities related to the AsESG secretariat hosted by WTI. You will liaise and maintain regular exchange within and amongst the membership of AsESG, governmental and non-governmental agencies, and donor organisations on issues related to Asian elephant conservation. Before applying, please ensure that you have a Master’s degree in Environment, Biodiversity Conservation, Wildlife, Social Sciences, or Mass Communication or an equivalent subject from a reputed university; a minimum of 5 years of top level managerial experience; and excellent verbal and written communication skills in English, including the ability to write technical reports and proposals. Note that this position is open to both Indian and international applicants; the latter must, however, possess all required VISA documents and permits to work in India. Broad responsibilities include • Supporting the AsESG membership and its ongoing activities • Responding to all technical queries made to the AsESG secretariat from within and beyond the membership, or directing them as appropriate • Liaising with and assisting the Chair on all issues related to the work of the various AsESG task forces or working groups • Compiling and synthesising information on the conservation and status of Asian Elephants across the Range Countries and making it available via the web • Assisting the Chair in collating information on budget needs for regular conduct of the various activities of AsESG and producing an overall budget table for informing the membership • Working with the Chair and membership to produce a three-year fund raising strategy for AsESG • Overseeing and controlling the quality of the technical content of the AsESG website • Working with the membership, other IUCN specialist groups and key partners on delivering technical documentation to policy audiences, including CITES • Overseeing the write-up of the proceedings of the AsESG meetings, including articles for the journal Gajah, the minutes of the formal AsESG meetings etc • Writing and submitting regular reports to Species, the Newsletter of the IUCN Species Survival Commission (SSC)
