Programme Leader - WI Mediterranean Office

This project will contribute to strengthening the program counts international of waterbirds ( DIOE ), coordinated by Wetlands International, creating synergies with the programs on waterbirds and wetlands existing already in the region Mediterranean and by consolidating the various initiatives (for example , the " Wings over Wetlands "). It will also aim to produce technical briefs and training materials and awareness in different languages to foster networks of observers and improve coverage. Finally it will attempt to complete the inventory of sites of international importance and to identify priorities for action. This project is scheduled to last three years , linked to the commitment of donors , and will possibly be extended.

This ( head ) responsible ( e ) mission will assist the Program Manager DIOE based at WI ( Netherlands ), particularly for developing this program in the Mediterranean region , strengthening the representation of this region in the global database on censuses of waterfowl and establish synergies with ongoing projects in the region (projects Tour du Valat , UNEP -MAP RAC / SPA, ONCFS , Wetlands International, etc. ) .

Its tasks will include:

Establish an inventory

• in agreement with the head of DIOE in Ede , participate in the analysis of data from DIOE existing , focusing on the Mediterranean region,
• complement and link with the "network of critical sites , the inventory of wetlands relevant for migratory birds in the region considered with emphasis on their ecological role in the migration route ,
• quickly assess the state of conservation of sites, identify sites where to intervene priority and determine the work to do.

Development of synergies and partnerships

• participate in capacity building and revitalizing networks interested in DIOE in the region and to improve coverage in coordination with the responsible DIOE in Ede ,
• participate in program development WI in the Mediterranean region,
• develop synergies with the Observatory of Mediterranean wetlands and program partners involved: DIOE , projects "species "of the Tour du Valat ( flamingos , pelicans , Laro , shorebirds ... ), the ONCFS ( project in the Valley Nile) and the French Observatory of biodiversity.

Awareness / Communication

• arrange for the adaptation and translation of technical documents already existing on the identification and census of waterbirds ( ONCFS ) Migration ( AEWA) , etc. .

He / she will work under the command responsibility of the coordinator of the department "Conservation of Species and Global Change " Tour du Valat. The development of its activity will be coordinated by a steering committee comprising the project partners .

Profile:

The candidate (s ) will promote a successful experience and a strong interest in conservation and management of species and natural habitats.

• Education: Ph.D. in ecology and population dynamics of waterfowl , or equivalent
• Experience: 10 years of experience in conservation, management or research on waterbirds and wetlands. Practice essential networks of institutional actors , scientific and associations in the field related to the post
• Good knowledge of the natural environment of the Mediterranean environment at large
• Openness, excellent mind and strong analytical skills
• Excellent writing skills and interpersonal
• Driving Licence essential
• Practice of computer current (word processing , spreadsheets ... )
• English and fluent French , another language of the Mediterranean would be a plus.

Duration :

• Employment contract of indefinite duration

Additional information:

• gross salary Annual : 37 200 to 40 800 €
• Vacancy no later than January 2011, based at the Tour du Valat , the Sambuc , 13200 Arles , France
• Regular trips to France , the Netherlands and the Mediterranean
