Job Purpose
• The successful candidate will support the implementation of the Garden Route Initiative, including stakeholder engagement and communication, and the development, implementation and evaluation of projects. Key Tasks and Responsibilities: • Engage and liaise with stakeholders to build and strengthen the GRI partnership and facilitate the meaningful participation of all relevant stakeholders in the GRI and its component activities, initiatives and projects. • Convene certain GRI working groups and forums and manage their effective functioning. • Assist with the implementation of the GRI communications strategy. • Coordinate the management of the GRI Small Grants Programme, and GRI related project development activities among stakeholders and partner organisations in the GRI area. • Work with and assist project proponents with the identification, development, implementation, monitoring and evaluation of priority projects. • Support the implementation of the Garden Route protected areas management planning project, the conservation stewardship programme, and the incorporation of biodiversity priorities into land use planning and decision making in the GRI area. Requirements: • Appropriate tertiary qualification in Environmental Management/Biological Sciences/Development Studies/Social Sciences or related field. • At least 5 years experience in the implementation of multi-disciplinary projects involving a wide range of stakeholders in the biodiversity conservation, community development or related sector. • Experience in stakeholder engagement processes and workshop facilitation. • Experience in the development of successful funding proposals and applications. • Proficiency in English and either Afrikaans or Xhosa. • Computer literacy and proficiency in the MS Office suite. • A valid code EB (08) driver’s license and willingness to travel extensively within the Garden Route region. Competencies: • A good understanding of the Garden Route’s biodiversity and natural environment, the socio-economic environment, and the issues affecting the conservation and sustainable development in the region. • Project management skills and proven project development experience. • Self motivated. • Interpersonal skills • Ability to work successfully with a wide range of community groups, NGOs and government agencies. • An interest and passion for biodiversity conservation and sustainable development. |
