BACKGROUND
IUCN (International Union for Conservation of Nature and Natural Resources), represented by its Bangladesh Country Office is facilitating implementation of projects of Bangladesh Forest Department (BFD) under its Strengthening Regional Cooperation for Wildlife Protection Project (SRCWPP) funded by World Bank (WB).

IUCN needs a Project Assistant (Community Organizer) for smooth operation of the project for the project period.
The position is based at Chunait Wildlife Sanctuary, Lohagora Upazila, Chittagong District.
SPECIFIC DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
Under the overall guidance of Country Representative, IUCN Bangladesh and the Programme Coordinator, and under direct supervision of Project Manager, the Community Organizer will be a part of a team of diversified members contributing and supporting all aspects of the project implementation. The primary scope of work will include assisting the Bangladesh Country Office in the day-to-day operations for the projects, primarily responsible for community level communication, mobilization and awareness building towards implementation of pilot mitigation activities to reduce Human Elephant Conflict in the respective project site.
9.1. Support the Project Manager in communication and liaison for regular participation in participatory data collection on human elephant conflict to understand the nature, scale & related attributes (population, demography, routes, corridors, environment, water sources, social structures, behavior of crop raiding elephants etc affecting conflicts;
9.2. Congregate community concerns and suggestions in planning, management & institutional framework of HEC mitigation actions;
9.3. Facilitate discussion with Forest Department, Co-management Committees (CMCs) and farmers in designing mitigation actions;
9.4. Support implementation of mitigation activities in respective area;
9.5. Support the team to develop an early warning system to reduce HEC in respective area;
9.6. Assist stakeholders to participate in monitoring and supervision of activities;
9.7. Facilitate discussion with community for capacity building training activities and provide support related to training.
9.8. Any other task that may be assigned by the Country Representative, Programme Coordinator and Senior Programme Officer, IUCNB from time to time.
REQUIREMENTS
• A degree degree in Forestry, Zoology or a related field.
• At least 2 years of work experience in social mobilization, participatory / co-management, forest management activities.
• Demonstrated knowledge on wildlife related data collection, processing and compilation, PRA, RRA etc.
• Experience in plantation raising, establishment and monitoring activities.
• Experience in wildlife conservation and management activities.
• Hold a valid motor cycle driving license.
• Good Written and spoken skills in Bangla.
• Willingness to be based at Chunait Wildlife Sanctuary, Lohagora Upazila, Chittagong District.
