Description

Under the guidance and direct supervision of the Head of the Energy and Environment Unit, the Programme Analyst is responsible for management of UNDP programme within the Energy and Environment portfolio. The Programme Analyst analyzes political, social and economic trends, leads formulation, management and evaluation of programme activities within his/her portfolio, and provides policy advice services. He/She will also be responsible for provision of implementation support services (financial disbursement, procurement, recruitment etc.) as and when requested by the implementing partners. 

 

Duties and Responsibilities

  • Implements programme strategies focusing on achievement of development results. 
  • Contributes to effective management of the CO programme under the Environment and  Climate Change area focusing on project assurance and quality control from formulation to implementation of the country programme.
  • Creates strategic partnerships and implements the resource mobilization strategy focusing on achievement development results.
  • Provides policy advice and knowledge management services to the Government and focusing on achievement of development.

Required Skills and Experience

  • An advanced University degree from a leading international university in science, with exposure to economics and statistics.
  • Minimum of two (2) years post graduate work-related experience.
  • Experience in the design, implementation, and monitoring of environmental projects, particularly in the fields relevant to this position.
  • Experience in developing countries and in dealing with a range of stakeholders, as well as international organizations, development agencies, scientific and technical bodies, developing country counterparts, and NGOs would be advantage
  • Basic awareness of global environmental issues, including biodiversity, climate change, international waters, land degradation, the ozone layer, and persistent organic pollutants.
  • Previous background in institutional environment of development cooperation (NGO’s, UN system, multilateral cooperation, etc.) with preference given to candidates with experience in UNDP field operations.
  • Knowledge of the political and economic situation in the African continent is highly desirable.
  • Previous experience with ERP (People soft) systems will be an added advantage.
