The Non-Timber Forest Products –Exchange Programme for South and Southeast Asia (NTFP-EP) is a collaborative, regional network of grassroots NGOs and peoples’ organizations that seeks to build the capacity of forest-based communities in the sustainable management of forests, especially in the conservation and trade of non-timber forest products. Program Officer for Community Forestry and Climate Change

Project Summary: NTFP-EP has become an implementing partner of the ASEAN Social Forestry Network (ASFN) through the ASEAN – Swiss Partnership on Social Forestry and Climate Change. The goal of the partnership is to integrate social forestry into climate change adaptation and mitigation measures and to ensure socio-economic benefit to ASEAN peoples. The role of NTFP-EP in the project is to promote civil society (indigenous peoples, community forestry groups, women, vulnerable groups) engagement in ASFN, through sharing the bottom-up approaches related to climate change mitigation, mainstreaming social forestry through national, state level community forestry bodies, and assessing and supporting community livelihood adaptation strategies. NTFP-EP will particularly focus attention on the Philippines, Cambodia and Sarawak (Malaysia).

 

Job Description

1.       Coordinates and integrates NTFP-EP project activities related to regional Community Forestry and Climate Change (CF and CC). This includes: consolidating country level inputs, plans, reports, co-designing trainings, learning activities, policy workshops etc, representing NTFP-EP in national and international activities, when needed.

2.       Coordinates activities in relation to the ASEAN Social Forestry Network (ASFN)

3.       Consolidates civil society positions, policy points and advocacies related to community forestry and climate change

4.       Assists local players in the development of pilot projects/initiatives and social forestry and climate change adaptation / mitigation related activities

5.       Provides support and coordination on behalf of NTFP-EP to the EU REDD community carbon pools project

6.       Regularly communicates with project partners, country teams, consultants, trainers to share information on project implementation updates and provides additional strategic and logistics support.

 

Qualifications

1.      Educational background: anthropology, forestry, ecology, social sciences, environmental sciences or other related fields

2.      At least 8 years experience in development work, direct experience in forestry, climate change and community development preferred

3.      At least 4 years experience in program management

4.      Experience in regional coordination preferred  

5.      Strong communication and networking skills

6.      Good technical writing, public speaking and presentation skills
