Program Manager, Ocean Acidification

This position is responsible for providing program support and management on a collaborative effort among Ocean Conservancy, the larger ocean conservation community and industry partners to raise visibility on solutions-oriented ocean conservation with a special focus on ocean acidification. The position will work with the Director to help coordinate partner efforts, and will manage the program???s efforts to develop external voices in support of local and regional solutions to address ocean acidification.
PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES:
The Program Manager will support the Director to ensure the collaboration???s effectiveness and will promote Ocean Conservancy among its partners and stakeholders as a conservation and communication leader in the field of ocean acidification. The manager will also be responsible for the Ocean Acidification Program???s integration with other Ocean Conservancy programs and functions. The Program Manager will work within the Program and Policy department and in close partnership with the Marketing and Communications department.
SPECIFIC RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Implement long-term strategic work plans designed to further communication, policy and conservation goals of Ocean Conservancy and its partners.
- Cultivate external voices in support of local and regional solutions to address ocean acidification, including shellfish growers, coastal resource users, chefs, etc in areas and regions identified by Ocean Conservancy and its partners. Work with Ocean Conservancy communication staff and external consultants to elevate and showcase local stories in local, regional and national media.
- Develop and manage specific projects such as public opinion polling, stakeholder events, Capitol Hill briefings, in-person meetings of the collaborative, message and communications training, ensuring all projects are completed on time, within budget and with a high attention to detail.
- Research local and regional policy opportunities in key regions identified by the collaborative; write and develop reports as needed.
- Draft and distribute messaging, statements, talking points, fact sheets and other materials related to ocean acidification that advance the goals of Ocean Conservancy and its partners.
- Develop online materials for Ocean Conservancy and its partners’ work on ocean acidification, including blogs, Facebook posts, web materials, that further advance the program’s communication goals.
REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS:
- Degree in political science, journalism, public policy, conservation, public relations or other relevant field.
- At least five years’ experience in public policy, conservation or communications with proven experience in managing collaborative efforts or coalitions across diverse departments, organizations, and/or stakeholders.
- Superior written and oral communication skills, including capacity to communicate complex ideas compellingly to a variety of audiences. Strong grammar and editing skills.
- Knowledge of or experience with emerging ocean acidification or behavioral science, government and policy; experience with conservation issues a plus.
- Familiarity with public policy, communications, conservation and the non-profit sector preferred
- Experience and comfort pitching reporters and organizing media events on an aggressive schedule. Attention to details and adherence to deadlines and deliverables. Ability to work effectively as part of a team.

- Significant travel will be required for this position.
- Spanish or an additional language highly preferred.
