FSC does so by providing standard setting, trademark assurance, accreditation services and business value for companies and organizations interested in responsible forestry.

 

Products carrying the FSC label are independently certified to assure consumers that they come from forests that are managed to meet the social, economic and ecological needs of present and future generations.

 

Mission statement/ business objectives of the function:

 

Strategic planning, organization and coordination of the development, maintenance and consistent implementation of FSC Policies and Standards in the core area of Controlled Wood (CW), to engage the FSC Network, certification bodies and stakeholders, and deliver high quality services.

 

Main roles and responsibilities:

 

  • Strategic planning and coordination of activities related to the development, maintenance and review of normative documents for certification and accreditation in the core area of Controlled Wood.
  • Supporting the development of National Risk Assessments worldwide.
  • Coordinating the development of communications, guidance and training materials related to FSC's CW Policies and Standards.
  • Coordinating, developing and providing advice and interpretation to certification bodies, Accreditation Services International (ASI), stakeholders and others throughout the FSC Network to ensure the consistent implementation of FSC’s CW Policies and Standards.
  • Coordinating project development and administration for work areas under his / her responsibility:
    • Conceptualizing projects and feasibility studies.
    • Coordinate working group activities.
    • Support in fundraising and reporting to donors.
  • Coordinating monitoring:
    • Ongoing analysis of relevant developments and their impact on FSC’s CW policies and standards;
    • Monitoring of the uptake and implementation of FSC's CW Policies and Standards, analysis of problems and proposal of solutions.
  • Coordinating administration and handling of information requests by certification bodies and third parties related to FSC's CW Policies and Standards.
  • Representing FSC externally in technical and other forums.
  • Coordinating the work within the Controlled Wood Program:
    • Developing the Program work plan and budget.
    • Ensuring work plan implementation and budget adherence.
    • Delegating tasks within the Program as needed.
    • Coordinating activities with Chain of Custody and Forest Management Program areas and FSC Units as necessary.
  • Additional tasks as agreed with the Policy and Standards Director.

 

Execution of discretionary power:

The position does not include any signing power.

 

Key Performance Indicators:

  • Work plans for the CW Program are executed as planned.
  • Adherence to process and deadlines for standard development and revision is ensured.
  • Adherence to budgets, timelines, and outputs of assigned tasks.
  • External stakeholders (National Offices, Standards Development Groups, committees, experts and advisors, consultants) are satisfied.
  • High level of quality in implementing the relevant Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs).

  • Business units of
    • FSC International Center,
    • FSC Global Development,
    • FSC AC
  • ASI – Accreditation Services International
  • FSC Regional Offices
  • FSC Network Partners (e.g. National Offices, National Representatives, National Focal Points)

 

Qualification, experience and skills:

 

The successful candidate demonstrates the following key competencies and qualities:

  • Education: University/technical college degree in forestry or equivalent.
  • Working experience:
    • At least five years of experience in one or more of the following: multi-stakeholder standards development processes; certification; the forest sector; or corporate environmental and social responsibility programs.
    • Experience with FSC Controlled Wood and/or legality initiatives desirable.
  • Languages: Fluency in English (spoken and written). Fluency in Spanish is desirable.
  • Team Membership Skills: The successful candidate works well as a member of a multi-cultural, inter-disciplinary, multi-lingual, global team while providing integration in critical areas of development.
  • Ability to relate to the FSC’s Values and Approach: The successful candidate identifies with the values and mission of the FSC, relates to the principle mechanisms of the organization and is at a general level familiar with the scope of FSC’s programs of standard setting, accreditation, trademark management, political dialogue and networking.
  • Personal Conduct: The successful candidate through his/her work represents the FSC as a whole with exemplary personal and professional authority and conduct. The successful candidate conducts his/her work with uncompromised integrity and loyalty appropriate to the position.
  • Exceptional Interpersonal Communication Skills: The successful candidate must possess exemplary verbal and written communication skills that create cohesive team efforts and affect decision making. He/She needs active-listening skills and the ability to facilitate interactive discussions and maintain positive interpersonal relations.

 

Terms and conditions:

  • The position is based in Bonn, Germany.
  • Full Time - 40 working hours per week.
  • Temporary contract: 2 years – extension possible.
  • Starting date: As soon as possible.
  • Sporadic travel is required.
