Global Community Monitor (GCM) is an environmental justice and human rights non-profit organization that empowers industrial communities to recreate a clean, healthy and truly sustainable environment. You may know us by our successful programs - the Bucket Brigade and Refinery Reform Campaign.

Global Community Monitor has trained industrial fenceline neighbors in 22 US states and 19 countries through out the world in environmental sampling, media and environmental justice campaigning. Global Community Monitor builds on successful strategies used to hold major corporations accountable in the U.S and internationally.

POSITION DESCRIPTION:
The Program Coordinator is a key staff position that will be primarily responsible for interfacing with community members, industrial polluters, public agencies, environmental health experts and the media. The person in this position will participate in leadership capacity building, meeting facilitation, community organizing (including door-to-door and phone canvassing), environmental sampling and data interpretation, working with the media, good neighbor negotiation, and event planning.

The Program Coordinator will split their time between field and office work. The work environment for this position is diverse and includes in person work at Global Community Monitor home office, telecommute, and travel.

RESPONSIBILITIES INCLUDE:
Assisting in the planning and implementation of trainings nationally and internationally, assisting staff with supporter and other databases and website maintenance, general office duties, and programmatic support as assigned by the Program Director or Executive Director.

The ideal candidate for this position has a strong professional background in community organizing, a proven commitment to environmental health and social justice issues; and is a mature, independent, responsible, well-organized self-starter who can anticipate problems and their solutions.

REQUIREMENTS:
•    2+ years community organizing background
•    Experience working with environmental health and toxics
•    Experience working with industrial neighbor issues 
•    Experience in door to door outreach
•    Proven skills in use of static and web based systems including: Microsoft Office, supporter databases, social networking sites,
•    Shoot, post and edit internet video
•    Excellent communication and meeting facilitation skills
•    Ability to work from home or other offsite location
•    Valid passport and ability to travel nationally and internationally
•    Valid drivers license and automobile insurance

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:
•    Fundraising experience
•    Knowledge of air pollution issues
•    Experience in Campaign planning, strategy and implementation


TIME & COMPENSATION:
•    Full time salaried position requiring a minimum 30 hours of work per week 
•    Full benefits including vacation, sick, health, dental and vision
•    Work travel expenses covered
•    Pay range $28-$33K depends on experience with opportunities for advancement
