The Student Conservation Association (SCA), America’s #1 conservation service organization seeks a Program Coordinator Youth Programs (CA/Southwest Region) Regional office based in Oakland CA. After initial training period in Oakland CA, SCA will consider office location in AZ or NM.
Primary Responsibilities:
- Coordinate SCA supervised youth crew-based activity for designated region and the implementation of SCA safety standards and quality.
- Communicate with partners to: identify potential crew opportunities, costs and funding; set up crew logistics (including camping sites, tools, work projects, transportation/travel, pack support, etc.); and ensure successful implementation of programs.
- Participate in the recruiting, hiring, training and supervising of Program Assistants and Crew Leaders.
- Participate in developing, implementing, instructing and administer elements of annual Crew Leader orientations and work skills training.
- Visit and provide on-the-ground logistical support to crews and agencies in the field as needed.
- Coordinate program budgets, evaluations, and reports.
- Assist RPD in coordinating community-based programs as needed (in addition to national programs), with special focus on locally-recruited summer crews outside of the Bay Area.
- Supervise volunteers, interns, and seasonal assistants (as needed) on projects specific to program needs.
- Log all partner, leader and program information and communication in SCA’s database systems
- Support local student/youth recruiting efforts.
Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree with 2 years of job-related experience or 5 or more years of relevant experience in program management/coordination – including program planning and reporting, team leadership, staff supervision and training, operational/logistics management, safety protocol, agency partnership development/management, and budget management.
- At least 2 years of youth program leadership experience, preferably in an outdoor setting and/or with youth from diverse ethnic and socio-economic backgrounds.
- Skills and experience in trail work, conservation or related manual work such as carpentry, landscaping, etc.
- Strong oral, written and interpersonal communication skills required. Ability to develop and maintain professional relationships.
- Proven organizational skills.
- Knowledge of MSOffice products and experience with databases required
- Proven project management skills, ability to oversee multiple projects simultaneously.
- Valid driver’s license with Motor Vehicle Record that meets SCA standards required
- Criminal background check that meets SCA standard required
- Ability to work well as part of a team as well as independently
- Wilderness First Responder and CPR certification required.
- Willingness to travel (approximately 25% of work time) required
