The Student Conservation Association (SCA), America’s #1 conservation service organization seeks a Program Coordinator in our Youth Program based out of our Arlington, VA Office.

Oversees SCA supervised crew-based activity for Mid-Atlantic, Southeast and Northeast Regions and the implementation of SCA safety standards and quality.  Coordinates crew leader recruitment, hiring, training, supervision and evaluation for region and Support, implement, instruct and manage elements of yearly Crew Leader trainings and work skills.

Primary Responsibilities:

  • Review, interview, hire, train and support National High School crew leaders in conjunction with National High School and Leader staff.
  • Provide direct supervision and evaluation of 40-60 National crew leaders in the Mid-Atlantic/Southeast and Northeast Regions
  • Supports local student recruiting efforts and site specific logistical needs as needed.
  • Directly responsible for ensuring project and program quality for 20-35 National crews in Mid-Atlantic/Southeast and Northeast programs in conjunction with Regional Program Directors.
  • Work with agency partners to determine program model and structure that best fits their needs
  • Work with partners to coordinate successful implementation of program.
  • Prioritize programs to be roved, rove crews in region, and manage $5000 roving budget
  • Support, implement, instruct and manage elements of yearly Crew Leader trainings and work skills.
  • Serve as Duty Officer as scheduled, ensuring timely reporting.
  • Participate in annual SCA and youth program staff planning, training, and evaluation.
  • Visit and provide on-the-ground logistical support to crews and agencies in the field as needed.
  • Support opportunities for collaboration and cooperation between HS Crew and Community Programs.
  • Lead partner retention outreach and support partners submitting crew requests
  • Represent National High School program on Mid-Atlantic/Southeast and Northeast Regional Teams meetings
  • Provide program reports to Advancement and Partners as needed

Qualifications:

  • 5+ years progressively responsible related experience; SCA crew/project leader experience highly desirable.
  • Bachelor’s degree in related field preferred
  • Team leadership and supervisory experience required
  • Knowledge of programming and youth leadership required
  • Strong oral, written and interpersonal communication skills required. Ability to develop and maintain professional relationships
  • Proven organizational skills
  • Knowledge of MS Office products and experience with databases required
  • Proficiency in outdoor living skills and/or conservation work skills required
  • Proven project management skills, ability to oversee multiple projects simultaneously
  • Criminal background check that meets SCA standards required
  • Valid driver’s license and MVR that meets SCA’s motor vehicle standards required
  • Wilderness First Responder and CPR certification required.
  • Willingness to travel (approximately 25% of work time) required
  • Access to mobile phone for work purposes required
  • Excellent communication skills needed
  • Valid driver’s license and MVR that meets SCA standards required
  • Ability to meet SCA’s criminal background check standards
