Directory Entry : Founded in 1967 as the Environmental Defense Fund, we tackle the most serious environmental problem...a scrappy group of scientists and a lawyer on Long Island, New York, fighting to save osprey from the toxic pesticide DDT. Using scientific evidence, our founders got DDT banned nationwide. Today, we’re one of the world's leading environmental organizations. In the U.S., Fortune magazine called our board one of the country's most influential nonprofit boards. You can see the jobs of the EDF on their website.

With world attention focused on both the environment and the economy, Environmental Defense Fund (EDF) is where policymakers and business leaders turn for win-win solutions. This leading green group, with programs from Boston to Beijing, has tripled in size over the past decade by focusing on strong science, uncommon partnerships and market-based approaches. You can be part of a vibrant workplace that welcomes diverse perspectives, talents and contributions, where innovation and a focus on results are a way of life.

Environmental Defense Fund’s distinctive approach to environmental protection emphasizes a focus on scientific and economic disciplines and on the use of market mechanisms to reach well-crafted, durable solutions. The organization builds teams of scientists, lawyers, and economists to investigate the causes of environmental problems as well as the market forces and government policies that encourage and subsidize patterns of environmental damage.  Environmental Defense Fund seeks practical solutions, founded on science, that policy makers and industry can be urged to incorporate into practice, law, or regulation.
