The International Council on Clean Transportation (ICCT) is a non-profit organization helping to develop policy solutions to reduce conventional pollutant and greenhouse gas emissions from the transportation sector.  We are currently accepting applications for a Program Associate position located in our San Francisco office to support our Commercial Aviation and Climate Change team.

This position will work to identify, refine and promote policies and methods to reduce the climate impact of domestic and international aviation.  The work outputs of this position will be immediately applicable to ongoing policymaking at the International Civil Aviation Organization (ICAO).  Working under the direction of the ICCT’s Aviation program staff, tasks will include:

  • Providing technical support for ICCT’s initiative on in-service aircraft, including work to develop emission inventories and mitigation scenarios for relevant nations and methodologies to assess relative airline efficiency;
  • Conducting analysis of projected trends in new aircraft energy intensity in partnership with Argonne National Laboratory;
  • Reviewing work products of consultants to the ICCT on aviation technology cost, and
  • Organizing workshops and presentations to educate policy-makers and journalists.

Qualifications desired

The ideal candidate will have a strong technical background, most likely with a master’s degree in engineering, environmental science, or energy and resources and significant modeling experience.  Policy experience, familiarity with the aviation industry, and an understanding of economic analysis are desirable. The position requires excellent quantitative, analytic, and research skills, along with strong written and verbal communications skills.  The ideal candidate will be highly organized, self-directed, and creative and strategic in problem-solving and identifying policy needs.
