Overall Function

Environmental Defense Fund is currently seeking a full-time Program Assistant in Washington, DC to provide administrative support for staff members in the International Climate Program. The International Climate Program, a subset of EDF’s Climate and Energy Program, works to reduce greenhouse gas emissions around the world through the promotion of innovative market-based mechanisms, participation in the UN climate negotiations, and advocacy for the Reduction of Emissions from Deforestation and Degradation (REDD) in developing countries. The Program Assistant will perform all necessary administrative tasks to ensure the efficient operation of programmatic activities for the International Climate Program. 

Key Responsibilities

  • Make travel arrangements, prepare itineraries and expense reports for multiple professional staff members.
  • Draft contracts with international consultants; process and track invoices.
  • Translate documents from Spanish to English.
  • Track program expenditures and assist in updating   monthly financial reports.
  • Plan and manage logistics for climate related workshops and other events in the US and potential international locations.
  • Conduct research on climate change related and other issues. 
  • Prepare and proofread correspondence, briefing memos, charts, tables, graphs, etc.
  • Support staff members in the preparation of grant proposals and reports.
  • Work independently and as part of a team on special projects, which may include: assisting in the planning, coordination and dissemination of presentations, narrative reports, and other written and web-based information.

Qualifications

  • Undergraduate degree and at least two years’ work experience in a similar position.
  • Very strong attention to detail and outstanding organizational abilities.
  • Ability to complete and prioritize multiple tasks under strict deadlines in a high pressure setting.
  • Excellent oral and written English communication skills.
  • Ability to work well both alone and with a team of diverse colleagues.
  • Proficiency in MS Word, Excel, and Outlook.
  • Proficiency in Portuguese and/or Spanish is highly desired.
  • Experience working and/or travelling abroad is a plus; some international travel may be required.
  • Demonstrated interest and/or experience in environmental advocacy a plus.
